Now - when Christmas and New Year’s Eve is coming - you don’t want to think about any problems and worries, but just to relax and spend that time with your family or friends enjoying the precious moments. We all would love to have a very Merry Christmas full of laugh and joy and an occurring claim under your landlord insurance or homeowners insurance would be probably the last thing you would want to face during that time. Unfortunately the Christmas time and winter weather brings more risks of damage to your house and belongings as well as increases chances of theft. And we will all agree that those accidents might ruin the Christmas spirit.

Some researches show that the most dangerous and unexpected causes of the damage at this time of the year are beauty appliances. This sounds quite strange and irrational but it is true indeed. Last year these kinds of claims were estimated to reach £1.4 billion. For those sceptics who cannot believe in beauty products causing serious damage, here is a simple example: people are preparing for Christmas dinners, parties, going out and forgetting about basic safety rules. They are leaving some fluids and liquids, like nail varnish or colourful drinks in an easy reach of children thus increasing the stains damage possibility. Curling irons and hair straighteners are even more dangerous as left on for a long time when not in use, these appliances might cause a fire. Not only does this apply to beauty appliances but also other domestic electrics including kitchen machinery. People in a rush often forget to turn electrical equipment off after use which might easily cause fire resulting in a serious damage or even a terrible prospect of losing the roof over your head altogether!

Additionally, researches show that a large percentage of the Christmas claims last year were floor damage, which estimated that about £330 million were paid out to policy holders. The explanation for this sort of claim is quite simple. Homeowners organise parties to celebrate the festive season together with their friends and relatives, invite guests to their houses without realising that a huge damage might be caused by the essential female party outfit element - stiletto heels - to those owning wooden floors.
The other dangers during festive season are candles and electric Christmas lights and decorations which, if used carelessly, might set the house on fire.

One of the biggest losses for all of us, not only involving financial harm but also causing emotional grief, might be the gifts and presents left behind in cars or homes under the Christmas tree. Thieves are working intensively during Christmas as they know that majority of homeowners are extremely busy, reckless, and absentminded at this time being a particularly easy target for them.

To have a wonderful Christmas and to free ourselves from disappointments and concerns we should be more careful and wisely prepare ourselves for upcoming holidays. Not to mention taking out appropriate buildings and contents insurance which will safeguard you should the worst does happen.
